Ballard Events in August

There’s lots to look forward to when you visit Ballard in August! Just check out these fun neighborhood events and activities...

Friday Night Sailfest - Fridays
On Friday nights in August, there is a free sailing race event for the whole family at Sail Northwest in Shilshole Bay with Friday Night Sailfest! Enjoy a fun-filled evening on the water with friends, family, colleagues, etc. The first start of the race is at 1900 hours, with subsequent starts at 1905 hours and 1910 hours. And after the race, head to I Dock at the Shilshole Bay Marina Plaza for free hot dogs, beer/wine, sodas and Sail/Fest raffles.

Movies at the Marina - August 12
The Shilshole Bay Marina offers free, family-friendly outdoor movies at the marina on Friday, August 5th and August 12th. The movie on August 5th was “The LEGO Movie”, with sketching and LEGO robotics activities from Bricks 4 Kids. Coming up on Friday, August 12th, the Movies in the Marina event will feature “Pan”. The movie starts at dusk (around 9 p.m.), but there will be a LEGO Play ‘n Display courtesy of Dan Parker Brickable Designs and other activities starting at 6 p.m. Seating is on the garden lawn or in the parking lot - bring snacks, blankets and low-backed chairs to enjoy the movie, with free popcorn available first come, first serve. Leashed dogs are welcome. Alcohol is prohibited.

Sustainable Ballard Festival - August 27
The 13th annual Sustainable Ballard Festival highlights the creativity, passion, practices and community that’s necessary to bring about more sustainable living in our neighborhood. With the theme of People Power, there will be a variety of activities such as a station to create bubble wands, musical instruments and bottle cap flowers; skateboard lessons; a family bike expo; urban farm zone with goats and chickens; live music (on a solar-powered stage); a Tea Garden from Miro Tea; food carts; and birdhouse building with Built Green (a festival sponsor). This event is free, from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. in the Ballard Commons Park.
