3 Awesome Parks to Walk To From Hotel Ballard
If you're the adventurous type, and are planning a stay at Hotel Ballard, there's a lot you can see & do on foot in the immediate area! If you're into the outdoors, love window shopping, or just need to stretch your legs after a long ride into the city, here are a few walks for you to take while you're here!
Walk to the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks.
The Locks are an excellent outdoor adventure for anyone who likes scenery, the outdoors, boats, or fish! The walk is an excellent adventure for the window shopper with many shops on the way. To get there, head northwest on Ballard Ave NW, take a left on NW Market St, a slight right onto NW 54th St, and then follow the signs into the park. It's a one mile walk on relatively flat ground, with restaurants, shops & to-do's along the way.
Walk to Golden Gardens.
If you've got a few hours to kill & want to spend some time outside, pack a picnic and head to Golden Gardens—a beach park on the Puget Sound. There's a playground, numerous fire pits, restrooms, and a beautiful beach. To get there, head northwest on Ballard Ave NW, take a left onto NW Market St, a left on 24th Ave NW (you'll be on that for a while), a left on NW 80th St, a slight right onto Loyal Way NW and follow signs into the park at NW 85th. This walk is a little hilly and longer (2.5 miles) than the two above, but is an excellent walk if you're looking to get a little exercise in and spend some time outdoors.
Walk to Discovery Park.
There are two different ways to get to Discovery Park from Hotel Ballard, and we're going to tell you the way that takes you past shops, restaurants, through the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks and right into Seattle's largest park. Between the hotel & the park, you'll find little boutiques & cuisine from around the world—once you get to the park, you'll find hiking trails, meadow lands, cliffs overlooking water, forests, and beaches. To get there, follow the walk to the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks, cross The Locks, and follow the path through Commodore Park (on the other side of the water from The Locks) and take a right on W Commodore Way. Take a left onto W Harley St, then a right onto NW 33rd Ave, and follow it to 32nd Ave W and onto W Government Way. Getting to the park is a 1.8 mile walk and is a little hilly.
Enjoy your adventures!
